ACMC hosted representatives from various Timor-Leste disaster response agencies in Darwin to share experiences and knowledge on civil, military and police coordination in disaster response.

The program involved members of the Timor-Leste Civil Protection Authority (CPA), Policia Nacional de Timor-Leste (PNTL), Falintil Forças de Defesa de Timor-Leste
(F-FDTL) and Timor-Leste Red Cross.

Australian and Timor-Leste delegates shared insights on civil-military coordination in previous disaster responses, including the 2021 flooding and landslides which impacted communities across Timor-Leste, including the capital Dili.

“Australia has a lot to contribute to, and learn from, our regional partners when it comes to coordinated disaster response. Gatherings like these are a valuable opportunity to share our common experiences, challenges and good practices when it comes to combining our national resources to assist in disaster response. I am confident that by sharing and learning from our past efforts, we will be able to successfully apply that to future preparedness and response initiatives,” ACMC Deputy Executive Director David Proctor said.

On completion of the visit program Mr Mariano Ana Lopes, Director CFPC - Timor Leste CPA said that "When we arrive home after attending this event we can create a plan where we work together with our military, police and other entities so we have clear and smooth coordination between us all."

Delegates visited Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services and Australian Defence Force bases for capability briefs.
