Building networks in our region to work together

ACMC undertakes a variety of activities that bring Australian agencies together with our partners in the Indo-Pacific to learn from each other.

As the Indo-Pacific experiences increasingly frequent and severe natural hazards, states across our region are working to increase civilian, military and police capabilities to provide coordinated crisis response.

ACMC works across the region with partner agencies to ensure we can learn from each other’s experiences, share our good practices and address common challenges. ACMC also partners with a variety of civil society organisations, especially in the humanitarian sector, to ensure external expertise is also incorporated into civil-military-police collaboration forums.

In particular, the ACMC:

  • Hosts delegations from regional partner countries to experience Australia’s civil-military-police capability arrangements through its International Visitor Program
  • Is a permanent co-chair of the Regional Consultative Group on Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination in the Asia-Pacific
  • Leads engagement with civil society on behalf of the Australian Government for the Women, Peace and Security agenda
  • Provides the secretariat function for quarterly bilateral engagements between the Department of Defence and the International Committee of the Red Cross
  • Additionally, the ACMC has established relations with a variety of domestic and regional partner organisations, including:

o   The Australian Red Cross

o   The United States Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Affairs

o   The Changi Regional Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Centre

o   The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management

o   United Nations Asia Pacific Regional Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
