ACMC was in Singapore this week to participate in several important regional activities to build civil-military engagement and improve disaster response.
ACMC shared early findings from its research on HADR coordination mechanisms in the Pacific, at a Regional Consultative Group on Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination in the Asia-Pacific (RCG) workshop in Singapore. ACMC’s Peter Giugni and Jessica Liddle-Boh briefed delegates on research underway to enhance coordination and predictability of response in several disaster-affected countries in the Pacific. The findings will be published on ACMC’s website in coming months.
ACMC participated in Exercise Coordinated Response, a biennial multinational Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Table-Top Exercise led by Singapore’s Changi Regional HADR Coordination Centre (RHCC). This year the exercise focussed on a regional response to a catastrophic weather event in Vietnam.
ACMC attended the Sri Rajaratnam School of International Studies’ (RSIS) Humanitarian Futures Forum, which explored preparedness and resilience in the context of growing climate-related challenges and strategic competition.
ACMC also attended ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Experts’ Working Group on HADR conference on “Disaster Relief in the Context of Climate Change”. The conference concluded with a focus on Timor Leste’s current HADR needs.
