ACMC supported the development of a new publication which draws on recent experiences in the Pacific region to strengthen disaster preparedness and response.

Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination in Emergencies: Towards a Predictable Model (Pacific edition) consolidates existing and emerging disaster management frameworks and highlights practical lessons from recent experiences in Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu to support predictable, well-coordinated action. It includes:

    1. A shared understanding of national and regional disaster management arrangements, enabling faster alignment between deployed forces, host governments and humanitarian partners to support preparedness, response and early recovery.
    2. Practical guidance for planners and operators, including National Disaster Management Offices and humanitarian organisations active in the Pacific, and the Australian Defence Force and DFAT crisis responders.

The publication was developed under the guidance of the Regional Consultative Group on Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination for Asia and the Pacific (RCG).

ACMC is co-secretariat of the RCG, along with the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CFE-DM) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Asia Pacific (UN OCHA).
