Mongolian Vice Minister of Defense, Mr Avirmid Battur visits ACMC

12 Feb 2015

On 10 February 2015, the Mongolian Vice Minister of Defense, Mr Avirmid Battur, visited the ACMC as part of his official visit to Australia from 8-11 February 2015. Mr Battur was accompanied by the Mongolian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Ravdan Bold.

The Mongolian delegation received briefings on the role and responsibilities of ACMC, as well as a briefing from the Commanding Officer of the Australian Defence Force Peace Operations Training Centre (POTC), Lieutenant Colonel (LTCOL) Matthew Nash. The discussions highlighted the recent participation of Mongolian Defense personnel in the POTC-sponsored UN Military Expert on Mission Course. LTCOL Nash flagged further opportunities for Mongolian and Australian cooperation in Peacekeeping and Peace Support Operations initiatives.

The visit to ACMC follows the signing of the Australia-Mongolia Defence Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Mr Dennis Richardson AO, Secretary of the Department of Defence and the Vice Minister on 9th February. The MoU provides a framework through which to formalise existing cooperation in the areas of training, education, peacekeeping capacity-building and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

This visit continues ACMC’s relationship with the Mongolian Armed Forces who last visited in November 2012.
