As part of an official visit organised by the International Policy Division, the Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) was honoured to host the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) White Paper Team.

Each year, Rotary funds some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest professionals to study at Rotary Peace Centres, under the Rotary Peace Fellowship Program.
ACMC hosted this year’s Peace Fellows from the School of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Queensland, to support their broader understanding of Australia’s approach to peace and conflict studies and resolution.

The Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), and the Humanitarian Advisory Group (HAG), launched Humanitarian Civil-Military Coordination in Emergencies: Towards a Predictable Model today.

The Australian Civil-Military Centre conducted a Civil-Military Interaction Workshop (CMIW) at the Australian Institute of Police Management in Manly, New South Wales from 19 – 24 March 2017.
The theme for CMIW was ‘Delivering ‘Joined-up’ Government: Achieving the Integrated Approach to Offshore Crisis Management’.

With over 30 years of policing experience, New Zealand’s Deputy Police Commissioner Glenn Dunbier has spent his career joining-up resources for better results. This is consistent with the Australian Civil-Military Centre’s mandate to join-up Australia’s civil-military-police efforts in conducting crisis response missions overseas.

Jane Gillis joins the Concepts and Capability team as Assistant Director Preparedness. Jane comes to ACMC with significant experience in exercises, engagements and assessments.

During his address to the gathering the ACMC Executive Director, Dr Alan Ryan, paid particular attention to the concept of delivering ‘joined-up’ government as a way of achieving the integrated approach to offshore crisis management.

On 22-25 November, the Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) conducted the East Asia Summit (EAS) on Maritime Security Cooperation in Sydney. This was the second EAS seminar facilitated by the ACMC (the previous in 2015 explored lessons learned in regional Search and Rescue, and Disaster Response).

Researchers at the University of Queensland have completed Phase 1 of a commissioned study into Australian uniformed and civilian female personnel in peace and security operations. One hundred and two face to face interviews with Australian Defence Force, Defence public service, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (including AusAID), and Australian Federal Police personnel deployed between 1988 and 2014 were completed in early September.
