Dr Alan Ryan hosted a visit to the ACMC on 29 October by a delegation from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). Mr Kimihiro Ishikane, Director General, International Cooperation Bureau, MOFA led the Japanese delegation, which was in Australia for talks on international development and cooperation. Mr Ishikane was accompanied by members of his staff and a representative from the Japanese Embassy in Canberra.
Dr Ryan briefed the delegation on Australia’s model for building whole-of-government civil-military-police capacity and effectiveness in responding to emergencies overseas. Dr Ryan also outlined ACMC’s program of activities for the coming year. He provided an overview of ACMC’s whole-of-government lessons learned program and the Centre’s research delivery service. Mr Ishikane was interested to learn about the Centre’s regional and international engagement activities, including its international secondee program. ACMC is currently hosting secondees from Indonesia and Vietnam. Mr Ishikane and Dr Ryan discussed a broad range of civil-military-police issues, including ACMC’s work on preparedness, exercises, education and training. They also explored possible areas for future collaboration and knowledge sharing.
